The Photography of the 20th Century
has shown radical movement in history of the photography.
If one was to ask what 20th Century Photography was
all about the answer lies in the historical period in
which the work was made. Gallery Lumiere, which specializes
in commercial photography, will have an opening exhibition
Masterpiece of Photography in 20th Century. This exhibition
will be a significant retrospective of the works of
artists who have changed the way we look at photography
today. The exhibition will look at the relative historical
periods of the photographs and relate them to the trends
occurring at those moments in time.
Masterpiece of Photography in 20th Century brings high
expectations, not only because of name of photographers
involved, but because their history and aesthetic style
will be covered in detail. For the first time, viewers
will be allowed to see the works of these artists up-close
and personal. The works of American photographers Edward
Weston, Ansel Adams, Helen Levitt, Arnold Newman, Danny
Lyon, Ruth Orkin, Arthur Rothstein, Robert Mapplethorpe,
Nicholas Nixon, Ray K. Metzker, Marry Ellen Mark, Dennis
Stock, Jock Sturges will be shown as well as the works
of French photographers Henri Cartier-Bresson, Jacques-Henri
Lartigue and Willy Ronis. German Photographer August
Sander¡¯s photographs will also be exhibited. Nicholas
Nixon¡¯s work in particular will be shown because his
work was loved worldwide after World War II.
To understand the important aesthetic elements of photography
in 20th Century we must step back and study the style
conventions of each specific period of time. This exhibition
will look at this specific historical time frames of
these seminal works attempt to relate them to their
relative artistic movements. The Masterpiece of Photography
in 20th Century will study the fame, photographic style,
history and each photographer¡¯s personal outlook on
the world. The work of August Sander and the other seventeen
photographer¡¯s reflect the politics, economy, social
issues, and cultural events of their time.
